The key to success in any greenhouse operation is ensuring a safe, well maintained, and efficient greenhouse. The impacts of a mismanaged greenhouse can spread across the entire operation, while negatively impacting the efficiency, safety, and profitability of an organization.
As one of the largest insurance providers in the horticultural industry, we continue to focus our efforts on providing the green industry with superior, cost-effective solutions that create a safe environment while also driving efficiencies and profits.
One example of this commitment is our member-exclusive program called Structurally Sound, which leverages our partnerships with industry-leading suppliers and contractors to educate our customers on practices for properly maintaining a greenhouse.
The program includes a quarterly Structurally Sound webinar series enabling Hortica vendor partners to develop and jointly present on topics focused around the following areas:
- Maintenance: Offering turn-key practices for properly maintaining a greenhouse.
- Safety: Focusing on greenhouse best practices.
- Operations: Streamlining all facets of greenhouse operations.
Our first Structurally Sound webinar, held in July 2016, focused on the benefits of utilizing polyethylene (aka poly) as a glazing solution, the safety measures that should be considered when installing poly, and the keys to success for maintaining poly.
Our fall 2016 webinar (Fall Button Up) focused on the benefits of safely performing essential greenhouse structural maintenance tasks during the autumn months so members could reap the rewards in spring.
Future webinar series include topics focusing on supplier and member best practices in safety and marketing, along with new technologies in water treatment. We’re also exploring the creation of an incentive-based certification for members.
In addition to webinars, our Structurally Sound program also affords members with an opportunity to leverage their aggregated buying power to obtain discounted pricing on products and services that support their operations.
During 2016, we partnered with Midwest Greenhouse Supply (MGS), a greenhouse supply/construction company with more than 80 years of industry experience, to launch a solution-based glazing program that’s customized to meet desired outcomes at discounts of up to 30 percent. This member-only program also enables our customers the ability to have their glazing purchases installed by Midwest Greenhouse Supply’s parent company, L.L. Klink.
This holistic solution creates the only self-performed supply and installation service in the marketplace. Hortica and MGS continue to expand the products and services offered in this program and explore new solutions for the members.
With 130 years of experience in the horticultural industry, we continue to leverage our reach across the industry and create solutions focused on the success of each of our policyholders.
