Along with supporting and actively participating in the horticultural industry across the country, Hortica is also committed to support and give back to the community. Employees are actively involved in local charities, fundraisers and community activities, as well as give to and direct an Employee Contribution Fund. An elected committee distributes donations from the Fund to local and national charities, local food pantries and animal shelters. Hortica contributes to over 70 worthy causes annually.
Hortica offers local organizations/businesses the opportunity to use our facility as a meeting venue. Our building is nestled in a natural wooded area and features a 3-acre lake with a paved walking path. The serenity of the site is perfect for those wanting a different meeting environment for a few hours or all day.
For over 40 years, Hortica has sponsored a Christmas Basket Program which is also funded by the Employee Contribution Fund. Each year, 30-40 local families in need receive groceries for a nice holiday meal, along with gifts personally selected for each child in the home. Recipient families are nominated by Hortica employees. A few days before Christmas, with the help of a couple of local business partners who compile the grocery boxes, the employees deliver the groceries and gifts to the families. Hortica is very proud of this rewarding program, as the employees experience overwhelming expressions of appreciation from the recipient families each holiday.
Hortica has always been very supportive of continuing education for employees and sponsors a scholarship program for graduating high school seniors who are children of Hortica employees. Eligibility for the scholarship requires a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 or 3.75 on a 5.0 scale through the first seven semesters of high school. Applicants must plan to pursue a degree at a NAAC accredited 2 year or 4 year college or university.
