Steven B. Hutton
Steven (Steve) Hutton is the President and CEO of Star Roses and Plants/Conard-Pyle in West Grove, Pennsylvania. This is the leading genetics company involved in breeding roses and other plants, as well as introducing plants from other breeders around the world. He served on the Hortica Board of Directors from December 2010 to June 2015 and joined the Hortica Advisory Council in July 2015.
Steve earned his degree in English literature from Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana. As a third generation nurseryman, he worked at several industry companies, including E.G. Hill Company in Richmond, Indiana, Oakdell Nurseries in Apopka, Florida, and Meilland International in Cap d`Antibes, France, before holding numerous positions and titles at Star Roses and Plants/Conard-Pyle.
He is a member of the American Horticultural Association and the Pennsylvania Landscape & Nursery Association. He also serves on the Board of Trustees, Longwood Gardens; the Board of Directors, Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry; Board of Advisors, Jennersville YMCA; and the Board of Advisors Jenners Pond Retirement Community.
In his free time, Steve enjoys gardening, traveling, and kayaking. He and his wife, Ann, have one son, Ian. They live and garden on 20 acres in the beautiful countryside outside West Chester, PA.
Home Nursery, Inc
Ann Tosovsky is the president of Home Nursery, a Midwest family owned wholesale nursery grower, which supplies independent garden centers, landscape contractors and distribution centers throughout the Midwest. It is a third generation business that recently celebrated its 95th anniversary. During the peak season, Home Nursery employs approximately 100 people.
Ann grew up in the family’s nursery business and returned to Home Nursery after graduating from Eastern Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in business. Starting as a cashier, she worked her way through various departments and positions. Ann is the first female to lead the company and is the second female to serve as president of the Illinois Green Industry Association during her tenure on the board of directors. She is recognized in the industry and the community as an insightful, hands-on leader. In 2013, she was the recipient of the Tallerico Leadership Award from the Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Chamber of Commerce. Ann has also been named a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International.
Ann’s volunteer efforts are both professional and personal. She has served as the Advisory board chair of The Gardens at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) and is currently holds a board position. She has been an active member of the Edwardsville Rotary Club including her role as the second female president and helped spearhead the fundraising efforts for the successful Airplane Park Playground, a project to re-build the original playground the Rotary Club of Edwardsville constructed back in 1991. Ann currently serves as vice president on the YMCA board, and is chair of the program committee. Her involvement with health causes such as the American Cancer Society and the American Diabetes Association is in support of family, friends and co-workers who have battled the diseases.
In recognition of Ann Tosovsky’s service to her community and the green industry, she was awarded the 2014 Community Service Award by the William T. Kemper Foundation. In her honor, Commerce Bank, Trustee and the Commerce Bancshares Foundation made a grant to The Gardens at SIUE in support of a new visitor entrance. The Gardens at SIUE is a 35-acre public garden on the campus of SIUE. The mission of The Gardens at SIUE is to create a venue of beauty and distinction that will support the educational and research components of the University.
Ann has also added the title of “Host Mom” to five international students through the Rotary’s International Youth Exchange program. Ann and her husband, David Bender, enjoy spending time with their blended family of six children and five grandchildren.
Randall E. Tagawa

Randall E. Tagawa
Randall (Randy) Tagawa served on the Hortica Board of Directors from 2008 to June 2015 and joined the Hortica Advisory Council in July 2015. He is also the CEO of Tagawa Greenhouse Enterprises, LLC, a business which was created by his father and uncles in 1967. With facilities in Colorado, New Mexico and a Joint Venture with Ball Horticulture in California, Tagawas is one of the largest young plant producers in North America. The business has evolved over the years to include an award winning garden center. Tagawa Gardens is not only a place to purchase plants and garden supplies, but a place that provides the community with family and entertainment events, garden and environment-related classes, cultural and arts demonstrations, and tours for local schools and other community organizations.
Majoring in Horticulture with a business emphasis, Randy graduated from Colorado State University. He and his wife, Jeri, reside in Broomfield, Colorado and have four children. Randy currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the American Floral Endowment, and is an avid snow skier and motorcycle rider in his free time.
Kenneth J. Young

Kenneth J. Young
Kenneth (Ken) Young served on the Hortica Board of Directors from February 2011 to June 2015 and joined the Hortica Advisory Council in July 2015. He is CEO and co-owner of S and L Flower Company in Scottsdale, Arizona. The company operates a chain of retail flower shops and a wholesale division in the metro Phoenix area under the names of Phoenix Flower Shops and Downs Wholesale Florist.
He started his career in the floral industry at Amlings Flowerland in the greater Chicagoland area, where he worked from 1979 to 1990 in a variety of positions including General Manager of Bowl-O-Beauty Company.
Ken is a Trustee of the American Floral Endowment (AFE). Active in the Society of American Florists for several years, he has served as a Board Member in addition to serving on various committees and special task forces. He is a Past President of the Arizona State Florists Association.
He has been inducted into the American Academy of Floriculture and has received both the FTD YOM Achievement Award and FTD YOM Service Award. He has been recognized as Vendor of the Year by the Arizona State Funeral Director’s Association.
Outside the floral industry, Ken is active in the Phoenix 100 Rotary Club and is a Past President of the Phoenix Mid-Town Rotary Club. He has served as an Advisory Board Member of the NHL’s Phoenix Coyotes, President of the Arrowcrest Homeowners Association, and was a founding member and President of the Arizona Chapter of the DePaul University Alumni Association.
Ken graduated from DePaul University in 1984 with a BS in Accounting. He and his wife Lynn reside in Peoria, Arizona.
Robert L. Young
Robert L. Young
Robert L. (Bob) Young served on the Hortica Board of Directors from 2009 to June 2015 and joined the Hortica Advisory Council in July 2015. He retired from General Reinsurance Corporation, where he worked for more than 24 years as Senior Vice President and Casualty Facultative Manager of the Chicago Branch.
During his thirty-seven year career in the Insurance Industry, Bob’s areas of focus centered on underwriting and pricing casualty insurance products -including worker’s compensation, general liability, automobile, medical malpractice and other professional liability products. Over the years, he dealt extensively with the insurance distribution spectrum, including direct sales representatives, national brokers, as well as many specialties, excess and surplus lines carriers.
Prior to joining General Reinsurance Corporation, Bob held positions with Wausau Insurance Company. Bob graduated from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, with a major in business and a minor in sociology. He also received his Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation in 1987.
In addition to Bob’s involvement with Hortica Insurance, he volunteers with numerous community organizations. He and his wife, Pat currently live in Naperville, Illinois. They have two daughters and two grandchildren.
